Climate Talks: Can a Photograph Do What a Policy Paper Cannot?

10.08.2026 kl. 12:00 - 13:00

Vitensenteret Sørlandet (Kystveien 2)

The science is in. Researchers at Ny-Ålesund and across the Arctic have spent decades building an undeniable case for climate action. Policymakers have the data. So why are we losing the argument?

Disinformation doesn't fight fair. It doesn't need to be true. It just needs to be loud. And in a new geopolitical landscape it is gaining ground that took scientists years to earn.

The panel asks what European politics, science communication and environmental advocacy can do to fight back. And whether a photographer might just do what none of them can.

Join us to find out. Then hear from famed photographer Esther Horvath and join her guided tour of her Stars of Polar Night exhibition at Teaterplassen in Arendal.

Moderated by Gosia Smieszek-Rice, Deputy Secretary of AMAP. Organised by the German Embassy, the French Embassy, Goethe-Institut (https://www.goethe.de/ins/no/no/index.html), Alfred Wegener Institute, The Norwegian-German Willy Brandt-Foundation and Bellona.

Light refreshments will be served.
