The High North: Norway, Germany and Canada in a changing Arctic

11.08.2026 kl. 14:30 - 16:00

Arendals Sjømandsforening (Nedre Tyholmsvei 9B)

Marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between Norway and Germany, YATA Norway brings together the German Embassy, the Embassy of Canada and partners for a conversation on cooperation in the High North.

The event takes place in the wake of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Norway, where Arctic security, Allied defence cooperation, space activities and Nordic-Canadian cooperation were high on the agenda. At the same time, the Arctic is being reshaped by rapid climate change, rising geopolitical tension and growing pressure on critical infrastructure, maritime connectivity and resource governance. How can Norway, Germany and Canada strengthen political coordination, build resilience and sustain trust in a more demanding security environment?

The conversation will also address how youth and early-career voices can play a more meaningful role in long-term Arctic security, preparedness and cooperation.
